How to Check Court Cause List (Dainik Peshi Suchi) Online in Nepal: Supreme, High & District Courts
Summary
A practical guide to checking the Daily Cause List (Dainik Peshi Suchi) online in Nepal. Learn how to access cause lists from supremecourt.gov.np, read bench assignments and judges, and understand case priority tags.
On every court working day in Nepal, the Daily Cause List (दैनिक पेसी सूची) determines what matters will be heard by the judges. Published every working morning between 10:00 AM and 11:15 AM, the cause list reveals which bench (इजलास) has been formed, which judges are presiding, and the exact order in which cases will be called.
Whether you are a litigant waiting for your hearing or an advocate managing multiple cases, knowing where to find the official cause list and how to read it is essential.
All official court cause lists in Nepal—for the Supreme Court, High Courts, and District Courts—are accessed through the Supreme Court of Nepal homepage: supremecourt.gov.np.
1. Types of Cause Lists in Nepal
Courts in Nepal publish three types of cause lists:
- Weekly Cause List (साप्ताहिक पेसी सूची): Published toward the end of the week (usually Friday afternoon). It gives advance notice of cases scheduled for the upcoming week, though bench numbers and judges are not yet assigned.
- Daily Cause List (दैनिक पेसी सूची): The primary morning roster. Benches are constituted by the Chief Justice or Chief Judges every working morning, and this list assigns specific cases to specific benches and judges.
- Supplementary Cause List (पूरक पेसी सूची): Published when urgent matters (such as habeas corpus petitions or emergency interim orders) are filed during court hours and added to a bench later in the day.
2. How to Read a Cause List
When you open a Daily Cause List on the court portal, you will see key columns of information:
- Bench Number (इजलास नम्बर): The courtroom assigned to hear the matters (e.g., इजलास नं. २).
- Presiding Judges (माननीय न्यायाधीशहरू): Shows whether the matter is before a Single Bench (एकल), Division Bench (संयुक्त), Full Bench (पूर्ण), or Constitutional Bench (संवैधानिक इजलास).
- Serial Number (क्रम संख्या): The numerical order in which cases will be called. Matters at the top (e.g., serial numbers 1 to 5) are heard first, while matters at the bottom risk being left unheard (हेर्न नभ्याइएको) if arguments run long.
- Case Registration Number & Subject (मुद्दा नं. र विषय): The unique case number and dispute topic (e.g., Partition, Injunction, Bail).
- Parties (वादी र प्रतिवादी): The names of the parties involved.
- Priority Tags (प्राथमिकता):
- थुनुवा (Thunuwa - Custodial Cases): Indicates that the accused is in custody; these cases receive priority.
- अग्राधिकार (Agradhikar - Expedited Priority): Cases granted urgent priority by a prior judicial order.
